Beef Cattle Outlook and Management Conference Offered Across the StateWith beef prices at historic highs, marketing and management become critical for producers who want to make the most of the opportunity. Factors influencing markets and profitability will be addressed during a beef cattle outlook and management video conference Sept. 29 and 30 at locations across North Dakota. "Will prices remain strong through weaning? What’s the outlook for prices in the coming months and how can you plan your marketing? Those are questions we’ll be addressing," says Karl Hoppe, a North Dakota State University Extension Service livestock specialist. Hoppe says presenters will also address the country of origin labeling proposals, the Canadian beef situation in the wake of the mad cow disease incident and other factors that are likely to impact markets. The conference will also address management issues such as nutrition for weaning calves, replacement heifer strategies, drought’s impact on cattle price cycles, adding value to calves and health issues. "High prices give producers a little financial breathing room, but those prices also mean small management improvements can mean big increases in profitability," Hoppe says. The program is free and begins at 7 p.m. at the following locations: Monday, Sept. 29 Tuesday, Sept. 30 The conference is free. Presenters for the conference are NDSU Extension Service specialists.
