Six Youth to Attend National 4-H Congress
Six youth delegates and one adult from North Dakota will leave this week
to attend the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga.
The National 4-H Congress, Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, features the theme "Growing
unto the Future." About 1,300 delegates from across the United states will
attend. The program will be a mix of education, service and recreational
opportunities. The North Dakota delegates’ trip is sponsored by the North
Dakota 4-H foundation.
Attendees from North Dakota include:
Stacey Heggen of Park River. Heggen is a senior at Park River High
School and is the daughter of Mary and Bruce Heggen. She has been a member
of 4-H for 11 years and is a North Dakota 4-H Ambassador.
Bridget Knudtson of Harvey. Knudtson is a senior at Harvey High School
and is the daughter of Monte and Dee Dee Knudtson. She is a Wells County
4-H Ambassador.
Mike Ostlie of Northwood. Ostlie is a sophomore at North Dakota State
University majoring in crop and weed science and minoring in extension
education. He is the son of James and Audrey Ostlie and is an 11-year 4-H
member and North Dakota 4-H Ambassador.
Valerie Pherson of Rutland. Pherson is a sophomore at Sargent Central
High School. She is the daughter of Ione and Dennis Pherson Jr. and has
been a 4-H member for 10 years.
Raina Ruch of Brampton. Ruch is a sophomore at Sargent Central High
School. Her parents are Michele and David Ruch. She recently participated
in a 4-H exchange to New York.
Aaron Walsh of Harvey. Walsh is a Senior at Harvey High School. His
parents are Dennis and Kathy Walsh. He is active in 4-H, football, FFA and
livestock judging.
The youth delegates will be accompanied by Nancy Bollingberg, NDSU
Extension Service 4-H Youth Agent in Wells County. In addition to county
activities, Bollingberg works with the Wells County Technology Team and the
N.D. 4-H Technology Leadership Team.
More than 5,000 adult and youth volunteers work with NDSU Extension
Service 4-H youth programs. About 6,000 youth are members of 4-H clubs and
more than 50,000 youth participate in 4-H programs in North Dakota.
