Eide Announces Retirement

Wallace (Wally) Eide, after more than 28 years with the North Dakota State University Extension Service, has announced his retirement effective at the end of January 2004.

Eide has been director of the Institute for Business and Industry Development (IBID) since it’s inception in July 1989. “IBID provides one-on-one consulting to identify and solve business and technical problems with the help of NDSU researchers and students,” Eide says. “IBID also performs the role of ‘matchmaker’ finding the needs of urban manufacturers and then matching those needs with the capabilities of suppliers, particularly those in the more rural areas of the state.”

His career with the NDSU Extension Service began in 1975 as a livestock specialist. In 1983 he established the NDSU Extension Service Computer Services Department and in 1985 became a district director.

During his tenure with IBID, Eide focused on taking university resources to the people of the state. “We’ve provided business and technical assistance to hundreds of North Dakota inventors, entrepreneurs, businesses, and rural communities,” Eide says. “It was great working with those people because they are always so enthusiastic and are the type of people that like to think out of the box. It was also exciting to work on new products or services.”

Eide graduated from high school in Tioga before attending NDSU. He received his bachelor and master’s degrees from NDSU specializing in reproductive physiology in the Animal and Range Science department. Eide is retiring to pursue other interests.
