Linton Workshop to Examine Trends in Agriculture

Information on biodiesel, food safety, environmental stewardship and production of crops and livestock will be highlights of a workshop on future trends in agriculture Friday, Feb. 27, at the Emmons County Courthouse Auditorium in Linton.

Registration for the workshop is $5. Reserve a space by calling the Emmons County office of the NDSU Extension Service at (701) 254-4811 by Tuesday, Feb. 24. The workshop opens at 10 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m.

Morning sessions include:

  • An update on biodiesel and the potential for agriculture to produce energy by Vern Hofman, NDSU Extension Service agricultural engineer.
  • Trends in food safety by Julie Garden-Robinson, NDSU Extension Service Food and nutrition specialist.

Afternoon sessions will feature:

  • Trends in crop production by Terry Gregoire, NDSU Extension Service area cropping systems specialist.
  • Trends in livestock production by Greg Lardy, NDSU Extension Service beef cattle specialist.
  • What’s coming in environmental stewardship by Ron Powers, Barnes County Soil Conservation district supervisor.
  • What does the future hold for land values, land ownership and agricultural credit by Steve Tomac, general appraiser, and Rod Bachmeier, vice president for customer operations, Farm Credit Services.

The workshop is sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service, the Emmons County office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Emmons County Soil Conservation District and the Mandan and Wishek Branches of Farm Credit Services.
