Center To Provide Greater Accessibility to Community Economic and Leadership Information

A variety of resources on community economic development and leadership will soon be accessible through the North Dakota State University Center for Community Vitality. The center will coordinate and market numerous outreach efforts from within NDSU and the NDSU Extension Service that have been designed to help build capacity in North Dakota communities, according to Kathy Tweeten, center director and community economic development specialist.

Tweeten describes the center not as a place, but rather an organizational structure designed to make the outreach resources of NDSU easier to access. By telephoning Tweeten or visiting the center Web site, individuals will be able to gather information on the Institute for Business and Industry Development, Rural Leadership North Dakota, the Small Ag Business Development program and a number of other programs dedicated to community economic and leadership development.

“The center will pull all of the pieces together,” Tweeten says. “We have so many great resources at NDSU. This will give us a more effective way of telling people what they are.”

The State Board of Higher Education approved the center in January. “Now, it is a matter of establishing the Web site and creating the pieces needed to market the center, as well as to identify the resources within NDSU that can be accessed through the center,” Tweeten notes.

The center will be based in Bismarck. For more information, contact Tweeten at (701) 328-9718 or kathleen.tweeten@ndsu.nodak.edu.
