February 12, 2004 Eight Young Adults Become Voice of North Dakota 4-H A panel of judges recently chose eight young adults to serve as 2004 North Dakota 4-H Ambassadors. The ambassadors coordinate many activities that encourage leadership, teamwork and citizenship among youth and adults, according to Carrie Stark, advisor and Extension 4-H youth development specialist. The selection panel consisted of current ambassadors, former ambassadors, North Dakota 4-H Foundation Board members and 4-H sponsors. Twenty-two ambassador candidates ranging in age from 16 to 22 competed for the ambassador positions. The following eight were selected:
Ambassadors must possess certain skills and qualities, according to Stark. “They must be team players, work well with others, have leadership skills, be able to speak in front of a group and be positive role models,” she says. In addition to facilitating statewide events such as the 4-H Extension Youth Conference, ambassadors strive to be volunteers for 4-H programs in every county of the state. They also act as advisors to youth with new ideas and concerns regarding the 4-H program. Ambassadors also have a special mission to create awareness of 4-H opportunities for older youth, and thus plan and conduct workshops in accordance with their interests and needs. ### Source: Carrie Stark, (701) 231-5923,
