Trade Issues To Be Discussed At NDSU in April

How trade issues impact production agriculture will be the topic for the North Dakota State University Collegiate Farm Bureau’s second annual panel discussion. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, April 1, at the Beckwith Recital Hall on the NDSU campus.

The purpose of the panel discussion is to sort through issues facing NDSU students and North Dakotans in general and then come up with solutions.

Panelists for the event are:

Allan Preston, DVM, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Agricultural Development and Marketing Division, Manitoba Agriculture Food & Rural Initiatives

Lorne Martin, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy & Economics Division, Manitoba

Don Wick, Red River Farm Network

Hamid Beladi, Senior Research Fellow and Professor of Economics, North Dakota State University

Roger Johnson, North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner

“We have been able to assemble an extremely knowledgeable group of panelists,” says Nathan Fegley, CFB chairman, “The discussion should be lively and productive.”

“Trade is a tough issue to grasp, but it’s one that we must take very seriously if we want to remain a viable, agricultural state. We think the panel format lends itself to earnest discussion and development of solutions that take into account a variety of views and concerns,” Fegley says.

NDSU Collegiate Farm Bureau was authorized by North Dakota Farm Bureau’s voting delegates in 2002. The group has voting status in Farm Bureau’s policy development and implementation process.
