Dickinson Research Extension Center Field Day Is July 7

The annual Dickinson Research Extension Center Field Day will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2004. The focal point of this year’s event is the cross-slot drill which was engineered with the help of DREC scientists and staff.

Internationally recognized soil and water management conservationist, Keith Saxton of Washington, will be the featured presenter during the event. Activities are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the DREC.

Saxton will present the five criteria necessary for successful direct-seeding drills and planters. There will be live demonstrations as part of his presentation.

Other speakers on the program include Patrick Carr, DREC Agronomist; Mark Liebig and Kristine Nichols, Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory in Mandan; Marcia McMullen, North Dakota State University Extension Service and Craig Rystedt, Monsanto Company. Jay Elkin, a producer from Taylor N.D., will also be featured.

In addition to the agronomy program, the DREC will host its annual horticulture tour. The tour is scheduled to begin in the late afternoon. Activities conclude with a community barbecue at 5 p.m. on the DREC grounds. The DREC and the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee sponsor the supper.

Individuals needing more information can contact the DREC at (701) 483-2348.
