June 10, 2004 NDSU to Host First Annual Bison West North Dakota State University Alumni Association will host “Bison West” June 26 -27 at the Logging Camp Ranch, Bowman, N.D. “We are honored to have NDSU host this exciting event here at the ranch. Western North Dakota is very interested in NDSU,” said John Hanson, a partner in the Logging Camp Ranch and a 1979 NDSU graduate. “We hope everyone in the surrounding communities will participate as we have several fun events planned for all ages.” NDSU President Joseph A. Chapman and First Lady Gale Chapman will be in attendance. “I’m looking forward to meeting with alumni and friends to talk about the exciting developments going on at North Dakota State University,” said President Joseph A. Chapman. “These developments are providing new educational opportunities for North Dakota’s students and sparking greater economic growth. To a growing extent, our state’s young people have new options for staying in North Dakota after they graduate.” Gene Taylor, NDSU Athletic Director will also be attending. Taylor said, “NDSU athletics has always made recruiting ND high school athletes a priority and we will continue to do so. Our coaches will evaluate those athletes that we feel can help make our programs better and will make every effort to sign those young men and women to compete for the Bison and further there education at NDSU.” “Our county extension offices provide local access to NDSU for everyone in North Dakota. We are pleased to be part of the "NDSU Bison West" celebration on June 25 and wish to thank President Chapman and the alumni association for their support of this event” said Duane Hauck, Interim Director NDSU Extension Service, who will be participating throughout the weekend. Bison West will feature a variety of events including a beef and bison cookout, dancing to Dakota Gold, horse wagon rides, family rodeo (with or without horses), horse judging clinic and contest, nature hike, bird watching and much more. Cost varies per event. Participants can attend one event or attend them all.
