Clement Honored by Veterinarian Association

The American Veterinarian Medical Association has awarded Dr. Jim Clement its Practitioner Research Award. The award recognizes an AVMA member who has contributed significant research efforts to the veterinary profession while in practice.

Clement, Mandan, N.D., serves as a commissioner for the North Dakota Horse Racing Commission and previously has served as liaison between the AVMA and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

Clement was nominated for the award by Charlie Stoltenow, North Dakota State University associate professor and Extension Service veterinarian in the Animal and Range Sciences department. “Clement’s research efforts have focused on real problems affecting his clients and the beef industry across the nation,” Stoltenow says.

Through his work, risk factors for calf diarrhea were identified and intervention strategies were implemented with positive results. Clement has also worked with vaccine effectiveness studies and continues to be involved in on-farm applied research. “His work has been disseminated far beyond scientific journals as evidenced by the many articles in the lay press that reference his original work,” Stoltenow says.

Clement received the award on July 24 in Philadelphia at the opening ceremonies of the AVMA’s annual session.
