Hole-In-One Highlights Clover Classic Golf Tournament

The word spread fast over the golf course, “Somebody got a hole-in-one!” Then people wanted to know if it came on the $10,000 hole.

While it wasn’t the designated hole with the cash prize, John Harris of Fargo did earn a set of Hogan irons for his accomplishment at the annual Clover Classic Golf Tournament at Oxbow Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament benefit 4-H programs and activities in North Dakota. The perfect shot came on the fifth hole. The par three hole played to 140 yards the day of the tournament.

It was the first hole-in-one for Harris, President and CEO of Prairie Public in Fargo. Prairie Public includes Prairie Public Television and North Dakota Public Radio. It was also the first hole-in-one he had ever seen. His playing partners and witnesses were Mark Jensen, Steve Carlson and Paul Benson. After hitting his tee shot, John was bending down to pick up his tee and said, “Wait a minute, that looks pretty good!” The comment proved to be the understatement of the day as the ball rolled in the hole.

John is a 4-H alumnus, participating in Tennessee 4-H programs while growing up. He moved to North Dakota from his home state about eighteen months ago.

This was the fifth annual Clover Classic held in the eastern part of the state. A similar event has been held the past two years at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck. The honorary chair for the Oxbow tournament was NDSU Athletic Director Gene Taylor.

Marlowe Johnson of Jamestown won the custom fitted set of Ping irons in the raffle that was held in conjunction with both tournaments.
