Dakota Fatherhood Summit IV

Strengthening family life and enhancing the skills and commitment of fathers in family relationships will be the focus of the 4th annual national Dakota Fatherhood Summit IV. The conference will be held Oct. 26-29 in Sioux Falls, S.D. at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel.

“The presence of an involved and committed father is one of the most important factors in the development and well-being of children,” says Sean Brotherson, a professor and extension family science specialist at North Dakota State University. “A father will do no more important work than the work that is done within the walls of his home.”

In-depth training in marriage education, fathers and school settings, managing fatherhood programs, working with incarcerated fathers and parenting young children will be the topics of discussion during the specialized pre-conference on Oct. 26. Other topics being discussed throughout the four-day conference include: fathers and family violence, case management with fathers, fathers and early literacy, fathers and marriage, fathers in native communities, fathers and divorce, fathers and recovery, Head Start and much more.

A number of qualified keynote speakers will be presenting the sessions. Speakers include:

  • Ken Canfield; National Center on Fathering
  • Mike Hall; Strong Fathers, Strong Families
  • Susan Blumberg; Marriage and Family Program Specialist, Administration for Children and Families, Region VIII
  • Neil Tift; National Practitioners Network on Fathers and Families
