October 25, 2004 NDSU Sets Beef Quality Assurance Training Sessions The North Dakota State University Extension Service has scheduled a series of training sessions for beef producers who want to be certified or recertified in the state’s beef quality assurance program. Producers who want their calves to receive beef quality assurance certification next year must receive training by the end of this year, according to Lisa Pederson, Extension beef quality assurance specialist. The certification lasts three years. The sessions will include information on management and herd health techniques that improve beef quality. The sessions also will emphasize minimizing damage to beef cuts by giving cattle injections ahead of the front shoulder. The fee for the training sessions is $15. Training sessions are scheduled for the following dates and locations (all are on Central time unless otherwise noted): Nov. 1 - Halliday
Legion Hall. 6 p.m. Mountain time The Extension Service also plans to hold other sessions throughout the state. Watch your local news media for details. Funding for the beef quality assurance program comes from the NDSU Dickinson Research Extension Center and the $1-per-head beef check-off program through the North Dakota Beef Commission.
