Soil and Water Quality Meeting Set For January

Meetings to update certified crop advisers, farmers and others in the ag service industry, on soil and water quality issues will be held in Dickinson, Carrington and Minot in January. These sessions are designed to be an annual update of the latest research and information available on soil and water quality. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to provide feedback on educational and research needs.

The first meeting is Wednesday, Jan.12, at the Dickinson Elks Lodge, 501 Elks Drive. The second is Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Carrington Research Extension Center three miles north of Carrington on U.S. Highway 281. The third meeting is Thursday, Jan. 20, at the North Central Research Extension Center, in Minot, which is at 5400 Highway 83 South, Minot.

Topics will include an overview of concepts for nutrient management planning, the science behind determining sensitive water resource areas, an overview of manure nutrient contents and utilization, pest management considerations in conservation planning and an overview of the latest North Dakota Department of Health nonpoint pollution regulations and water quality effects on livestock.

Participants also will have an opportunity to review a farmstead scenario and make proper recommendations on nutrient rates and timing of applications.

The registration fee is $20, which includes a noon meal and materials. Those wishing to attend must register at least one week before each event. Four certified crop advisor continuing education units will be given at each session.
