Northwest Farm Managers Association Meeting is Feb. 1 in Fargo

David Kohl, a nationally known expert on farm and financial management, will speak at the 96th annual meeting of the Northwest Farm Managers Association on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m., at the Fargo Holiday Inn.

“The Northwest Farm Managers Association has a history of attracting speakers who are some of the best thinkers in agriculture and providing an atmosphere where producers can learn and exchange ideas,” says Andrew Swenson, North Dakota State University Extension Service farm management specialist. “Dr. Kohl will examine big-picture aspects, such as interest rates, land values and the national economy. He will also highlight the management practices that lead to farm financial success.”

Swenson says that the meeting also will provide speakers on three other topics that are of interest to producers: the weather, markets and federal farm policy. Leon Osborne, professor of atmospheric sciences and the director of the Regional Weather Information Center at the University of North Dakota, will discuss what producers in the region should expect for weather in the coming crop season.

Jerry Gulke, a grain marketing adviser and agriculture columnist from Rockford, Ill., will present his 2005 price outlook for soybeans, corn and wheat. He will outline strategies necessary to manage the price risk that lies ahead.

The noon speaker, Scott Stofferahn, will provide an update on what is happening in Washington, D.C., on farm policy. Stofferahn is the former state director of the North Dakota Farm Service Agency and is deputy director for Sen. Kent Conrad.

The meeting is open to all farmers and others who are interested in agriculture. A registration fee of $30 includes the noon meal and breaks. Call (701) 231-7393 for more information.
