North Dakota Feedlot School Set for January 25-26 in Carrington

The 10th annual North Dakota Feedlot School is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 25-26, at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center.

The school will be limited to the first 25 individuals who register. The registration fee is $100 per person or $150 for two from the same operation. The fee includes the resource materials, breaks and meals. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 21.

The school will provide participants with in-depth training and hands-on experiences in feeding cattle so they can take advantage of opportunities in North Dakota. Participants also will receive resource materials for use in making day-to-day management decisions.

The school begins at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and continues until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Wendy Bengochea, Extension agent in Foster County.

Topics include feeding and receiving programs, feeds and animal requirements, feed additives, implants, ration formulation, optimizing nutrient utilization, facility management, visual detection, bunk reading, beef quality assurance, waste management issues, carcass quality, business marketing and alliances, and marketing using futures and options. Bengochea also will lead a tour of a commercial feedlot.

Instructors include NDSU faculty from the Animal and Range Sciences Department, the Carrington Research Extension Center and speakers who have extensive experience working with northern Plains feedlots.

To register or for more information on the school, contact the Foster County office of the NDSU Extension Service at PO Box 80, Carrington, N.D. 58421 or call (701) 652-2581.

The center is located 3.5 miles north of Carrington.
