Land-grant universities in the northern Plains (North Dakota State University, Montana State University, South Dakota State University and the University of Wyoming) and National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS) invite livestock producers to participate in a two-day business-planning workshop that is designed to improve risk management and strategic planning skills.

The meeting will be held in Ellendale, N.D. Feb. 21-22, at the Fireside restaurant beginning at 9 a.m.

Topics addressed in the workshop include:

- Analysis of the new Livestock Risk Protection program
- Finding and motivating farm labor
- The merits of contracting
- Developing a strategic plan for your operation
- Tools for modern financial analysis
- Pricing strategies when markets swing

Presenters at the workshop include Harlan Hughes (NDSU, retired), Laurence Crane (NCIS), Matt Diersen (SDSU), Duane Griffen (MSU) and Cole Gustafson (NDSU).

Dates and locations of additional late spring and early summer workshops across North Dakota will be announced later.

Participants will be charged a registration fee of $20 to cover meal and material expenses and are encouraged to pre-register, as space is limited.
