NDSU Carrington
Research Extension Center Annual Cow-Calf Day Set for Feb. 17
New developments in
the beef industry will be highlighted at the annual cow-calf day Thursday,
Feb. 17, at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension
Center.
The event begins
at 1 p.m. and will conclude at 4:45. The event is free and open to the
public. The Carrington Research Extension Center is located 3.5 miles
north of Carrington on U.S. Highway 281.
Topics for the seminar
include:
- An explanation
of the 2005 North Dakota rules for livestock feeding operations and
approval-to-operate permits by Ron Weiderholt, NDSU Extension Service
livestock waste management specialist at the Carrington Research Extension
Center
- John Dhuyvetter,
NDSU Extension Service area livestock specialist at the NDSU North Central
Research Extension Center in Minot, will discuss heifer development
issues
- A discussion on
the animal identification program, including premises numbers and electronic
ID, by Jim Clement, North Dakota Department of Agriculture, state veterinarian’s
office
- A review of moldy
grains and their toxicities in beef cattle by Michelle Mostrom, NDSU
Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory toxicologist
- A report on research
on high-moisture corn and earlage for beef cattle by Vern Anderson,
Carrington Research Extension Center animal scientist
- Pricing replacement
beef females by Steve Metzger of the Carrington REC farm business management
program
