February 10, 2005 NDSU Center for Community Vitality Director Heads New Organization Kathleen Tweeten, director of the North Dakota State University Center for Community Vitality, has been elected the first president of the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals. The association, which began Jan. 1, is dedicated to improving the visibility, coordination, professional status and resource base of the Extension Service’s community and economic development programs and professionals. “I’m very excited and humbled to be awarded this opportunity to take a leadership role in the design of a national organization that I know will have a great impact on the quality and availability of research-based resources for local community development work,” Tweeten said. “I look forward to working with Extension professionals from across the country.” More than 400 Extension Service community development professionals have joined the group, according to Tweeten. The association’s development stemmed from discussions at the 2002 National Extension Community Resource and Economic Development Conference. The association’s goal is to help those who deliver programming and do research in community development to obtain and maintain the financial, political, technical and organizational resources they need.
