April 7, 2005 Geospatial Applications: Workshop Focuses on Geospatial Technologies
The Northern Great Plains Center for People and the Environment, in conjunction with the Department of Earth System Science and Policy and the Department of Geography at the University of North Dakota, will conduct a workshop focusing on geospatial technologies for state, local and tribal governments. “An Introduction to Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Integration for State, Local and Tribal Government in North Dakota” is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 25, at the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck. The workshop is open to representatives of local, state and tribal governments and the education community. The workshop is free, but space is limited to the first 75 registrants. The workshop is designed to provide information to novice and experienced individuals who want to learn more about the practical application of geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies that may be available and applicable to their area of responsibility. Introductory sessions will focus on these technologies as practical tools and data sources, which can support the workshop participants in the conduct of their work. Additional sessions will explore the available geospatial resources found in North Dakota’s universities and state organizations. Representatives from the North Dakota Geographic Information System office and the University of South Dakota also will be presenters at the workshop. I will present information on current remote sensing and GIS applications that are used at NDSU. The workshop is possible through the support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National States Geographic Information Council. NASA and NSGIC representatives are expected to discuss additional geospatial resources available to workshop participants. For more information or to reserve a place at the workshop, contact Gary Johnson at (701) 777-6761 or gjohnson@umac.org. I can be contacted at (701) 231-8213 or John.Nowatzki@ndsu.edu. Participants also may register at the beginning of the workshop, but keep in mind that space is limited. ### Source: John
