April 21, 2005 Leadership Development Class Grads to Help Guide Program Four members of Rural Leadership North Dakota’s first class have joined the program’s governing bodies. Vicki Monsen of Watford City, Deb Kantrud of Dickinson and Allen Orwick of Michigan will serve two years on the RLND Council. Michelle McCormack of Regent has joined the RLND design team. RLND is a two-year study and travel program to produce effective leaders with the vision and commitment to help their organizations, rural communities and state grow and prosper. The program is offered through the North Dakota State University Extension Service. The first class graduated earlier this month. The second class starts in October. Monsen is vice president and a loan officer at McKenzie County Bank. Kantrud is a community relations coordinator for the Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council. Orwick is president and owner of LFS Professional Services. McCormack is business manager for Slope Electric Cooperative. The RLND design team develops the study curriculum for the class. The council’s duties include setting RLND policies and helping select the next class members. The 2005-07 class will attend 10 seminars throughout the state and go on a six-day study tour to Washington, D.C. Seminar topics include leadership, communication, culture and heritage, creative and critical thinking, project management, understanding the political system, resource management and civic engagement. Participants also create and implement a project in their organization and /or community that allows them to practice the skills they learn. Applicants must have been a state resident for at least one year and be able to attend the entire program. Participants will be responsible for tuition of $1,375 per year.
