North Dakota Range Youth Camp Set for June 14-17

This year’s North Dakota Range Youth Camp will be June 14-17.

The camp teaches 13- to 18-year-olds the basic principles of range management as it relates to livestock and wildlife. Participants will learn about range plants, soils and ecological sites; how to evaluate rangeland; the interactions between rangeland and livestock; and the historical uses of rangeland.

They’ll also take part in a range-judging contest and exam, play range games, hike in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, visit Medora and play volleyball.

Participation is limited to 40 campers on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants need a parent or guardian’s permission to attend. They also must arrange for transportation to and from the camp, which is about 16 miles north of Amidon at Hanson’s Logging Camp Ranch.

The cost of the camp is $110. If campers need help paying this fee, they should contact their local North Dakota State University Extension Service agent, 4-H youth development agent, FFA or vocational agriculture instructor, or the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

For more information or an application, contact Kevin Sedivec, NDSU Extension Service range management specialist, at (701) 231-7647 or ksedivec@ndsuext.nodak.edu.
