August 4, 2005 NDSU to Offer Distance Education Course on Equine Studies If you’ve wanted to learn more about horses but don’t attend North Dakota State University, the university has a course for you. NDSU’s Animal and Range Sciences Department is offering its Introduction to Equine Studies course through distance education for the first time this fall semester. Fall semester starts Aug. 22. The class will be available through the interactive video network at four colleges and universities, plus selected high schools, throughout the state. The four institutions of higher education where it will be offered are Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt, United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, Cankdeska Cikana Community College in Fort Totten and Dickinson State University. It will run from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, the same time it will be offered on campus. The course also is offered through videostreaming for those who can’t take it at the scheduled time. The 2-credit course will provide students with the basics about horses, including history, anatomy, conformation, health management and the equine industry, according to Clare Purdy, who will teach the class. This is the first time that high school students can take this course through video from NDSU for college credit. For more information about the course, contact Purdy at (701) 231-6565 or cpurdy@ndsuext.nodak.edu. To register, contact the NDSU Admissions Office at (701) 231-8643. ### Source:
