Nutrient Management Plot Tour Set for Aug. 24

A tour of the Bob Green farm near Towner, N. D. on Aug. 24 will focus on nutrient management practices. The tour will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m.

“This is a good opportunity for producers to see a side-by-side demonstration of using manure compared with commercial fertilizers under real field conditions,” says Ron Wiederholt, North Dakota State University Extension Service waste management specialist. “One method to help producers adopt better nutrient management practices is the use of on-farm demonstrations as educational tools.”

The day starts with a meal sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service. Wiederholt will follow with a discussion on manure management and utilization on no-till fields.

Raquel Dugan-Dibble, McHenry County Extension Service agent, will give a presentation on corn maturity and ensiling corn. Emily Tescher-Johnston, Ward County Extension agent, will follow with a presentation on the benefits of grazing corn stover.

From Towner, turn left (west) on North Dakota Highway 14 and go 6.1 miles. Turn left (west) on 69th Street and go 6.2 miles.

From the Bantry cemetary, go 5.8 miles south and turn right (west) on 69th Street North and go 1.7 miles. Participants attending will meet at the farm and travel to the plot.
