Using Manure on No-till Workshop Set for Aug. 17

A workshop on using manure on no-till fields is set for Aug. 17 at Doll’s Hill Dairy in Morton County. The workshop will start at 1 p.m. and last until 3.

“This workshop will give those using no-till a good chance to understand how their fertility program is interconnected to the health of the soil,” according to Ron Wiederholt, North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center livestock waste management specialist.

Wiederholt will lead a discussion on manure management and utilization on no-till fields.

Information on building soil quality by managing residue and nutrient management will be presented by Hal Weiser, Natural Resources Conservation Service area resource soil scientist in Jamestown.

Mark Doll, owner of Doll’s Hill Dairy, will give his observations on no-till management during the workshop.

The Doll farm can be reached by taking the Interstate 94 Sweet Briar exit (134) west of Mandan. From the exit, go north seven miles on Morton County Road 84 and then west two miles on Morton County Road 140. Those attending are asked to park in the designated area or along the road.

For more information, contact the Morton County Soil Conservation District or Natural Resources Conservation Service at (701) 667-1163.
