August 18, 2005 Row Crop Field Tour at Carrington REC on Sept. 15 Farmers, crop advisers, and industry representatives are invited to attend a row crop field tour scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15 at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center. The tour will begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at 7. Participants will hear updates on sunflower, corn and soybean production research and recommendations. The sunflower session will involve discussion of growing season production issues and highlight the research program on hybrid tolerance to sclerotinia (middle stalk and head rot). Discussion during the corn session will focus on hybrid selection and corn growth and development. Soybeans will be emphasized during the tour. Those attending will hear presentations and be able to view research trials on soybean varieties, seed inoculation, plant nutrition, crop rotation, and disease management. Speakers include Duane Berglund, NDSU Extension Service agronomist; Carl Bradley, NDSU Extension Service plant pathologist; Marcelo Carena, NDSU corn breeder; Greg Endres, NDSU Extension Service area agronomist; Bob Henson, NDSU research agronomist, Larry Kleingartner, National Sunflower Association executive director; and Blaine Schatz, Carrington REC director and agronomist. A sponsored meal will be served after the tour. Continuing education credits will be available for certified crop advisors (CCA’s).
