North Central Research Extension Center Row-crop Field Tour Set For Sept. 15

Sunflower, corn and soybean crops will be the focus of the row-crop field tour at North Dakota State University’s North Central Research Extension Center in Minot on Sept. 15.

The event begins at 9 a.m. Participants will learn about crop adaptation, production, genetic selection and pest control.

Speakers and the topics they will cover include:

  • Larry Kleingartner, National Sunflower Association executive director - oil quality traits and trans fat changes in the sunflower industry
  • Jerry Miller, U.S. Department of Agriculture research geneticist - sunflower diseases and production
  • Joel Ransom, NDSU Extension Service agronomist - corn production
  • Marcelo Carena, NDSU corn breeder - corn genetics and hybrid selection
  • Duane Berglund, NDSU Extension Service agronomist - soybean production
  • Denise Markle, center research specialist - weed control
  • Jan Knodel, NDSU Extension Service crop protection specialist - insect pest control

The event will conclude with a noon lunch.
