September 1, 2005 Manure Management/Soil Quality Field Day Set for Sept. 9 A field day on manure management and soil quality is set for Sept. 9 at the Jim and Jeff Lyons farm near Lisbon. The event will start at 1 p.m. and conclude at 3:30. “This field day will give producers an opportunity to learn more about manure application rates and spreader calibration,” according to Ron Wiederholt, North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center nutrient management specialist. “Different rates of manure will be spread on a field so producers can make visual comparisons.” Wiederholt will begin the field day with a discussion on nutrient management, manure application, spreader calibration and livestock waste utilization. Hal Weiser, Natural Resources Conservation Service area resource soil scientist in Jamestown, will follow with a presentation on how no-till or minimum-till affects soil quality and health. The Lyons farm can be reached from Lisbon by going four miles east on North Dakota Highway 27 and then three-fourths mile north on 135 Avenue Southeast. The field day is sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service, Ransom County Lower Sheyenne Watershed Project, Ransom County Soil Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Preregistration is not required. ### Source:
