NDSU Equine Studies Program Offers Roping Skills School

North Dakota State University’s Equine Studies Program is sponsoring Goats and Ropes, a goat tying, breakaway, tie-down and team roping ground school, at the NDSU Equine Center on Oct. 22-23.

Tyler Schau, rodeo team coach at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, and Jackie Olson, the college’s assistant rodeo team coach, will teach the school.

The NDSU Equine Center is at the North Dakota Horse Park, 5180 19th Ave. N., Fargo. The course is one of several educational programs that the Equine Studies Program will host in the coming months.

The school is designed primarily to teach tying and roping skills to junior and senior high school and college rodeo athletes. This is the second year that NDSU has held a goat tying and breakaway clinic. The tie-down and team roping portions are new this year.

Event organizers urge anyone interested in participating in the school to register as soon as possible because the course is limited to 20 people.

The cost of the school is $100. Half of the fee is due with the registration. Anyone who wants to audit the course may come to watch and listen free of charge.

For more information or to register, contact Bobbi Bingeman at (701) 231-7726 or bobbi.bingeman@ndsu.edu or visit the Equine Studies Web site at www.ag.ndsu.edu/ars/equine_studies/index.htm.
