October 13, 2005 Agriculture Honor Society Formed at NDSU North Dakota State
University has gained its first agricultural honor society. “We have not had on campus before an honor society that focused on agriculture,” says Charlene Wolf-Hall, chapter president and an associate professor in the Veterinary and Microbiological Sciences Department. “It really became clear to me last spring during the NDSU commencement ceremony. I saw all the sashes and pins from other honor societies, but nothing for agriculture. Starting a Gamma Sigma Delta chapter just seemed like a good way to recognize the talent in our field.” Twenty-two charter members will be installed at a special ceremony, which will be held in the NDSU Alumni Center on Nov.1. On hand for the installation of the society’s 53rd chapter and its charter members will be Tom Ross, Gamma Sigma Delta International president. Election to membership in Gamma Sigma Delta is conducted by the faculty at the chapter level in accordance with international and local chapter bylaws. The broad objective of Gamma Sigma Delta is to encourage the advancement and improvement in all branches of the agricultural sciences and agriculture industry. Specific objectives are:
Undergraduates who have completed a minimum of 60 course credits with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and have completed a research, teaching or outreach project in some area of agriculture may be nominated for membership in the NDSU chapter. Graduate students, faculty, alumni and honorary members also must meet certain criteria. ### Source:
