October 20, 2005 NDSU Celebrates 32 Years of Excellence in Agriculture and Bison Athletics There is still time to register for the 32nd annual Harvest Bowl program at North Dakota State University. Events are scheduled for Nov. 4-5. Highlights include a Harvest Bowl dinner and awards on Nov. 4 and the Harvest Bowl football game between NDSU and the University of Northern Colorado on Nov. 5. As the state’s land-grant university, NDSU plays a major role in contributing knowledge through research, academic programs and the Extension Service. More than 1,800 agriculturists have been recognized and more than $70,000 in scholarships have been awarded to NDSU student athletes with agricultural backgrounds. The NDSU Harvest Bowl program recognizes the success, dedication and hard work of outstanding agriculturists in 53 counties in North Dakota and five counties in Minnesota. An agri-business award recipient is chosen annually. This award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in the field of agriculture and business in the state of North Dakota and beyond. Jack Carter will receive the 2005 award. A teacher, scientist and administrator, Carter was a faculty member at NDSU from 1950 to 1987 and served as chair of the Department of Agronomy, now the Department of Plant Sciences, from 1960 to 1987. Four scholarships also are awarded to outstanding male and female athletes. The 2005 Harvest Bowl scholarship recipient is Lindsay Shockman-Rogers, a 6-foot-1-inch junior middle hitter for the women’s volleyball team. Shockman-Rogers is from LaMoure. The recipient of a Harvest Bowl scholarship in memory of Robert Johansen is Justin Frick, 6-foot-3-inch junior defensive tackle from Yankton, S.D. The Bob and Darlene Yaggie football scholarship is awarded to Derek Arndt, a 6-foot-4-inch senior tight end on the football team. Arndt also is from LaMoure. Receiving the Bob Lauf Memorial Scholarship is Isaac LaVant, a senior defensive end from Phoenix. The 32nd annual Harvest Bowl festivities begin Friday, Nov. 4, at the Fargo Holiday Inn with a dinner, awards ceremony and games. On Saturday, honorees will participate in educational sessions on the NDSU campus and attend the Harvest Bowl football game.
