October 20, 2005 Learn More About Farmer and Rancher Grants During Videoconference An interactive video workshop on the USDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) farmer and rancher grants program will be held Friday, Oct. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. (8 to 10 a.m. MT). The purpose is to assist farmers and ranchers in the preparation of strong proposals for submission to the North Central Region SARE office by the Dec. 1 deadline. Farmers and ranchers may apply for up to $6,000 individually or up to $18,000 for group projects in sustainable agriculture. Grant recipients have up to 21 months to complete their projects and must share their findings with others through reports and outreach activities, such as field days and presentations. Leading off the discussion is Alison Kiesz, South Dakota Department of Agriculture. Kiesz will discuss proposal writing. Frank Kutka, North Dakota State University Dickinson Research Extension Center sustainable agriculture specialist, and SARE coordinator and assistant director for North Dakota and South Dakota, will follow with specifics of the farmer and rancher grant program. A discussion with participants will follow. The videoconference workshop will be available at six North Dakota locations:
