October 21, 2005 Second N.D. Rural Leadership Class Begins Rural Leadership North Dakota’s second class has 21 participants. RLND is a two-year interactive study and travel program offered through the North Dakota State University Extension Service. The program, which started in 2003, is designed to produce graduates with the vision and commitment to lead themselves, their organizations and their communities into the future. It attracts participants from all sectors of the state, including agricultural producers; ranchers; representatives from agribusiness, private businesses, organizations and financial institutions; educators; county Extension Service staff; legislators and other elected officials; and members of community councils, boards and committees. The class of 2005-07 are: Patricia Bowen, New Town; Gina Bushaw, Manvel; Laurie Dietz, Carrington; Jane Erickson, Bismarck; Tina Gustafson, Langdon; Jesse Handegard, Hettinger; Peggy Hellendsaas, Watford City; Craig Johnson, Fairmount; Scott Kroeger, Arthur; Korrine Lang, Sterling; Janel Lee, Grassy Butte; Bruce Lindgren, Kulm; Kim Moen, Harvey; Kimberly Nunberg, Beach; Nancy Olson, Fargo; Ronald Peltier, Dunseith; Lynnell Popowski, West Oslo, N.D.; Sharla Price, Price; Robyn Sorum, Horace; Jerod Tufte, Dawson; and Christina Wiederrich, Jamestown. “It is exciting to have the second class of Rural Leadership North Dakota participants starting their two-year experience,” says program director Marie Hvidsten. “I know they will have a positive impact on the future of their communities and organizations. This program will continue to build leadership capacity in individuals across the state.” The class will attend nine seminars and one study tour in the two-year period. The seminars will be held throughout the state on topics such as leadership, communication, culture and heritage, creative and critical thinking, project management, understanding the political system, resource management and civic engagement. The study tour is a six-day trip to Washington, D.C. Participants also will create and implement a project in their organization and /or community that gives them an opportunity to use the skills they learn. "I am thrilled to have received the opportunity to participate in the RLND program,” says Nunberg, city auditor in Beach. “I look forward to networking with other participants and bringing back useful, positive information that will be a benefit to the community as a whole." ### Source:
