NDSU Feedlot MBA Set for Nov. 30

“Feedlot MBA II: Making Bottom-line Adjustments,” a program for cattle backgrounders and feeders, is set for Nov. 30 at the Seven Seas in Mandan.

The North Dakota State University Extension Service and Animal and Range Sciences Department sponsor the program, which begins with registration at 9:30 a.m.

Program topics and speakers include:

  • An update on the NDSU Beef Systems Center of Excellence, Ken Odde, a professor in the Animal and Range Sciences Department
  • Effects of cattle health and disposition on performance, carcass characteristics and economics, Darrell Busby, Extension Service beef cattle specialist for southwestern Iowa
  • Using grid marketing tools effectively, Tim Schiefelbein, carcass value manager for Swift & Co.
  • Timing implants for optimal cattle performance and carcass merit, Robbi Pritchard, a professor at South Dakota State University
  • Natural beef programs – Schiefelbein
  • Using Optaflexx in northern Plains feedyards – Pritchard
  • Feedlot loan guarantee and livestock waste management system loan programs – Rodney Anheluk, a loan officer for the Bank of North Dakota
  • Producer panel on making the most of feed grain and byproduct opportunities

The preregistration fee is $25 per person or $40 for two people from the same operation. Registration at the door the day of the conference is $30 per person. The fee includes a noon meal, afternoon break and conference materials.

The deadline to preregister is Nov. 22. Registration forms are available at county Extension Service offices or by calling the Animal and Range Sciences Department at (701) 231-7644.
