Four Irrigators Workshops Scheduled

The North Dakota State University Extension Service has organized four workshops for irrigators in the next two months.

The workshop dates, locations and topics to be covered are:

  • Dec. 8, Best Western Ramkota Inn, Bismarck, held in conjunction with the North Dakota Water Convention - Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) funding for irrigation, fertilizer strategies in a high-priced environment, pumping energy sources, variable frequency drives for irrigation pumps, irrigation water management, irrigated pasture management, center pivot sprinkler packages, nitrogen and yield goals, and new alfalfa varieties
  • Jan. 4, Ernie French Center, Williston Research Extension Center - irrigation needs in western North Dakota, including EQIP funding for irrigation, irrigation scheduling, alfalfa management for high-quality hay, fertility research related to barley, water quality and salinity control, sprinkler nozzle sizing, variable frequency drives for irrigation pumps, and Canadian researchers’ findings on timothy and legume production and crop varieties that work under irrigation
  • Jan. 10, Masonic building, Cando – answers to questions resulting from interest in irrigation spurred by the Devils Lake Water Utilization Test Project, including EQIP funding for irrigation, irrigation scheduling methods, management of center pivots, irrigated corn production, alfalfa varieties for irrigation, optimizing nitrogen rates, chemigation, and an update on the progress and implementation of the irrigation part of the test project
  • Jan. 11, Farmers Union building, Jamestown - information for irrigators in the surrounding area, such as Kidder County, Oakes and the Page aquifer, including soil fumigants, alfalfa varieties, EQIP funding for irrigation, new irrigated crop budgets, variable frequency drives for irrigation pumps, update on groundwater resources in the area, fertilizer strategies in a high-priced environment, irrigated potato research update and irrigated corn production

The NDSU Extension Service, Missouri Slope Irrigation Development Association, North Dakota Irrigation Association and North Dakota Water Users are sponsoring the Dec. 8 workshop.

Participants can register at the door at each workshop. Registration will begin about 8 a.m. in Bismarck and 8:30 a.m. at the other sites. The registration fee is $20 for the Bismarck workshop and $10 for each of the others.
