January 5, 2006 Foster County Cow-calf Management School Set for Feb. 7-8 The North Dakota State University Extension Service is holding the Foster County Cow-calf Management School at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center on Feb. 7-8. The workshop is designed for cow-calf producers, lenders and industry professionals interested in improving production and lowering costs in cow-calf operations. “Regardless of herd size, producers are challenged with narrowing margins and continuing pressure to lower production costs and increase efficiency,” says Foster County Extension agent Wendy Bengochea. “This workshop will provide a sound educational basis for making production and marketing decisions in beef cattle production.” Herd health, genetics, nutrition, range management, reproduction, and business management and marketing are among the workshop topics. Speakers include Charlie Stoltenow, NDSU Extension veterinarian; John Dhuyvetter and Karl Hoppe, NDSU Extension area livestock systems specialists; Greg Lardy, NDSU Extension beef cattle specialist; Kevin Sedivec, NDSU Extension rangeland management specialist; Vern Anderson, Carrington Research Extension Center animal scientist; Kim Vonnahme, reproductive biologist, NDSU Animal and Range Sciences Department; and Tim Petry, NDSU Extension livestock marketing specialist. The class is limited to 25 participants. The cost is $25 per person. The fee includes two meals, the NDSU cow-calf management handbook and reference materials. The deadline to register is Jan. 31 or until the class is full. For more information or a registration form, contact the Foster County Extension office at (701) 652-2581. ### Source:
