Dairy Cow College Dates Set

The 13th annual Dairy Cow College has been scheduled for five sites throughout North Dakota in February.

The program is a joint effort of the North Dakota State University Department of Animal and Range Sciences, NDSU Extension Service and Midwest Dairy Association.

J.W. Schroeder, NDSU Extension dairy specialist and assistant professor in the NDSU Department of Animal and Range Sciences, and William Henning, Extension meats specialist and professor in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science at Penn State University, will discuss raising high-quality dairy steers, adding value to market cows before selling, whether feeding culled cows pays and updates of recent research on bull calves and vealers.

“The information should be of special interest to cattle producers interested in feeding dairy steers,” Schroeder says.

The program is designed for anyone interested in the dairy industry. Attendance is free of charge. No registration is required. Dates and sites are:

  • Feb. 6 – Emmons County Courthouse, Linton
  • Feb. 7 – Morton County Fairgrounds, New Salem
  • Feb. 8 – Elks Lodge, 501 Elks Drive, Dickinson
  • Feb. 9 – NDSU North Central Research Extension Center, 5400 U.S. Highway 83 S., Minot
  • Feb. 10 – Gladstone Select Inn, 111 2nd St. N.E., Jamestown

All of the sessions run from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. local time. The Midwest Dairy Association will provide lunch.

Other speakers include Char Heer, North Dakota program manager for the Midwest Dairy Association. Other program events include an American Dairy Association district meeting, North Dakota district updates from Midwest Dairy Association area directors and a question-and-answer session.
