Wine Grape Growers and Potential Winery Owners Meeting Planned in Carrington

The North Dakota State University Extension Service will host a North Dakota grape and winery meeting on Tuesday, March 14. The event will be at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The purpose of the meeting is to educate, inform and interest anyone who is curious about growing grapes for wine production or in developing a winery,” says Ron Smith, NDSU Extension Service horticulturist.

The featured speaker at the meeting is John Marshall, who, along with his wife, Barb, owns and operates Great River Vineyard in Lake City, Minn. Their business includes a vineyard, grape juice processing facility and grapevine nursery.

The topics addressed will include northern viticulture basics and vineyard economics. In addition, regional winery owners and grape growers will be present to discuss their experiences in running a business.

Registration is not required and the meeting is free and open to the public. For further information, contact Lisa Duppong at (701) 231-8063 or e-mail lisa.duppong@ndsu.edu. The Carrington center is 3.5 miles north of Carrington on U.S. Highway 281.
