March 2, 2006 Farmers Market Conference Scheduled For March 15-16 in Fargo The annual meeting of the North Dakota Farmers' Market and Growers Association is scheduled for March 15-16 at the Best Western Kelly Inn, 3800 Main Ave., Fargo. Nationally recognized expert and author Vance Corum will be the keynote speaker. Corum will discuss the keys to farmers market success. He also will be making four other presentations covering topics such as display ideas, marketing techniques, pricing and a session on customer research. Ron Smith, North Dakota State University Extension Service horticulturist, will address the challenges and techniques of growing produce organically, one of the fastest growing segments of American agriculture. Smith also will conduct a session on what vegetables to consider growing in North Dakota. Donna Thronson, North Dakota Department of Agriculture marketing specialist; Jerry Thompson, NDDA pesticide enforcement coordinator; and Paul Deutsch, NDFMGA chair, also will have presentations. All the topics will be of interest to a broad audience, such as farmers, vendors, craft people, and market organizers and managers. Registration is open until March 10.
