March 9, 2006 NDSU Offers “Final Wishes” Web Site Although dying is one of the few events in life certain to occur, most people spend very little time in preparation for this event. A Web site with information on funeral planning to assist North Dakota residents in preparing for this event is accessible through the North Dakota State University Extension Service. Consumer information, such as what to include in your obituary, a “My Last Wishes” funeral planning form, tributes to a loved one, making a will, how to create a meaningful funeral, funeral planning terms and tips, and a price check comparison form for funeral homes, is included. North Dakota legal information, including the new Advance Directives for Health Care form for North Dakota, how indigent burials are handled by a county and what to know about family funeral plots, is offered on this Web site. Other resources are grief information and support group Web links, Social Security benefits, veterans resources, a list of North Dakota funeral homes, cremation information and funeral planning-related Web links. A short PowerPoint lesson also is available for consumers to gain knowledge on funeral planning. In addition, a PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes is included for educators, funeral home directors, clergy and other professionals. Final Wishes Planning
in North Dakota was developed by Kris Bjelde, NDSU doctorate student in
gerontology, in conjunction with Debra Pankow, NDSU Extension Service
family economics specialist. This Web site is accessible at ### Source: Debra
