Bullying Book Author to Speak in Fargo

Barbara Coloroso, an internationally known speaker and author on parenting, teaching, school discipline and nonviolent conflict resolution, will be in Fargo to speak at programs for parents and professionals April 18.

The program for parents will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fargo Holiday Inn., 3803 13th Ave. S. It is free of charge and open to the public.

A workshop for professionals will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., also at the Fargo Holiday Inn. The cost is $50 per person. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m.

The North Dakota State University Extension Service’s Cass County office and Region V Parenting Resource Center are sponsoring these events with support from the Fargo School District and University of Minnesota Extension Service.

Coloroso, of Littleton, Colo., is an educational consultant for school districts, business and medical communities, the criminal justice system and educational groups. Her latest book is “The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander.”

“Breaking the cycle of violence in our homes, schools and communities involves more than merely identifying and stopping the bully,” she says. “It requires that we examine the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ a child becomes a bully or the target of a bully, and sometimes both, as well as the role the bystanders play in perpetuating the cycle.”

The deadline to register for the professional workshop is April 11. Send registration forms and fees to Cass County Extension, P.O. Box 2806, Fargo, ND 58108-2806. For registration forms or more information, contact Sharon Query at (701) 241-5700.
