NDSU High School Financial Planning Program Training Available August 4

Interactive video high school financial planning program training will be offered in communities across North Dakota on Friday, Aug. 4. Cost of the workshop/class is $5 to cover materials, breaks and lunch. Local North Dakota State University Extension Service agents will facilitate sites, which will be determined by interest.

Participants have the option of attending for informational purposes or doing some “homework” and receiving 1 continuing education credit at a special reduced rate of $25 (plus the $5 registration).

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with trends in teen spending
  • Learn new methods to teach students financial management topics
  • Learn about current issues and how to address them in an educational setting
  • Become familiar with the High School Financial Planning Program
  • Develop a lesson plan using current research and trends

The tentative agenda for the training:

9 a.m. Welcome and introductions
9:15 Teen spending
9:30 Teaching methods to reach teens
10:30 Current issues/topics in financial management (credit, bankruptcy and identity theft)
12:30 p.m. High school financial planning program
2 Work groups, lesson plans, etc., using the HSFPP
4 Closing and directions for those taking the training for credit

Current sites are Fargo, Bismarck, Minot and Carrington. Additional sites will be added per requests by interested educators.
