Scholarships Available for Sustainable Agriculture Conference

The North and South Dakota Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Professional Development Program has available travel scholarships that will reimburse up to $500 for registration, lodging and travel to an upcoming national conference.

The North and South Dakota Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program is coordinated by Frank Kutka at North Dakota State University’s Dickinson Research Extension Center.

The conference will be held Aug. 15-17 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and has tours, posters, workshops and more where cutting edge and proven techniques for improving agricultural sustainability will be presented and discussed.

The conference is the fourth SARE national/regional gathering that draws university research and Extension staff, farmers, ranchers, youth/students, agribusiness representatives, policymakers at all levels of government and nongovernmental organizations to explore current issues in sustainable agriculture.

Agriculture educators who can demonstrate that this conference will benefit them professionally and who can describe how they will incorporate the information into their programs are encouraged to contact Kutka at (701) 483-2063 or fkutka@ndsuext.nodak.edu to apply for the travel scholarships.

Among the keynote speakers is the husband-wife team of Frank and Deborah Popper, originators of the “Buffalo Commons” concept, and Winona LaDuke, two-time vice presidential candidate and director of the Honor the Earth foundation.

More information about the conference is available at www.sare2006.org.
