Field Pea Tour Set for July 14 at the Carrington Research Extension Center

Farmers, crop advisers and agriculture industry representatives are invited to attend a field pea tour scheduled for Friday, July 14, at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center. The tour will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at noon. The event is sponsored by NDSU and the North Dakota Dry Pea and Lentil Association.

Those attending the tour will hear presentations and be able to view research trials on field pea production topics including variety performance, seed inoculation and quality, and disease and weed management.

The tour will include a visit to the Carrington center’s livestock unit for discussion on feeding peas to livestock. In addition, tour participants will receive information on marketing field peas as a cash crop or livestock feed.

Speakers include Carrington center agronomists Blaine Schatz, Greg Endres and Bob Henson and animal scientist Vern Anderson. Other speakers are Eric Bartcsh and Larry White, North Dakota Dry Pea and Lentil Association and Kevin Haas, Legume Matrix company.

A sponsored meal will be served after the tour with the main course featuring pea-fed beef.
