June 22, 2006 Williston Research Extension Center Field Date Set for July 14 The annual Field Day at the Williston Research Extension Center will be held Friday, July 14. Coffee is at 8:30 a.m. CDT. Jerry Bergman, WREC director; Neil Riveland, WREC assistant director; and center staff will be in charge of the tours. The crops field tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. NDSU Research and Extension specialists will discuss new varieties of barley, wheat and durum, as well as malting barley fertility, safflower production, weed control in small grains and herbaceous biomass crop research relative to ethanol production. A horticulture program will begin at 10 a.m. at the Ernie French Center for those who enjoy flowers and gardens. The program also will feature growing grapes for wine making. At noon, the traditional barbecued chicken luncheon will be held. The luncheon is sponsored by area agribusinesses and the Williston Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee. The afternoon program starting at 1 p.m. will feature wireless technology for monitoring and managing a farm. The program will conclude by 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend and participate in all field day activities. Please note this year’s field day will be held on a Friday, not on Thursday as in previous years.
