No-till and Manure Utilization Field Day Set for Aug. 1

The North Dakota State University Extension Service, Soil Conservation District and Kidder County will sponsor a field day and farm tour focusing on no-till crop production and manure utilization on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7.

The field day will start at 5:30 p.m. on the Curt Heiback farm, which is 9 miles south of Steele. This portion of the tour will showcase manure versus commercial fertilizer demonstration plots. Ron Wiederholt, NDSU Extension Service waste management specialist, will discuss utilizing manure in no-till cropping systems.

The discussion will move to the Doug Devore farm for a close look at no-till cropping systems. Hal Weiser, Natural Resources Conservation Service soil scientist, will discuss the soil quality impacts of no-till production. The field day will conclude with a meal on the farm.

“This field day will allow producers a chance to learn more about no-till and how to use manure in no-till,” Wiederholt says.

The field day is open to the public and free.
