NDSU to Hold Drought Meeting in Fort Yates

Producers who have drought-related questions will be able to get answers at a meeting in Fort Yates on Aug. 9. The meeting, starting at 2 p.m., will be held at Sitting Bull College’s New Science Center Building.

Since the end of July, NDSU Extension Service experts have been holding meetings in extremely dry areas of the state to answer drought-related questions.

Along with the Fort Yates meeting, the dates, times and locations for the remaining meetings are:

  • Aug. 7, 7 p.m. – Zeeland City Hall
  • Aug. 8, 9 a.m. – Emmons County Courthouse auditorium, Linton
  • Aug. 8, 7 p.m. – Veterans Club, Steele
  • Aug. 9, 10 a.m. – 104B VoTech Center, Bismarck State College

Topics to be discussed are:

  • Range/forage issues
  • Economics, business management and taxes (moving feed versus moving cows)
  • Livestock management (nitrates, water quality and early weaning)
  • Nutrition issues (byproducts, limit feeding grain to cows)
  • Farm Service Agency rules and regulations (Conservation Reserve Program rules)

Producers also can access NDSU drought information on the Web at www.ag.ndsu.edu/drought/. Producers who wish to purchase forage or have forage for sale can access NDSU’s FeedList at www.ag.ndsu.edu/feedlist/. Producers who have grazing land available or can custom feed cattle for the winter also are asked to enter their information on the FeedList.
