New Members Appointed to N.D. State Board of Agricultural Research and Education

Two new board members were approved by the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education to oversee agricultural research and Extension at North Dakota State University.

The board named Doyle Lentz and Doyle Johannes to the North Dakota State Board of Agricultural Research and Education (SBARE). Also, Carol Goodman was reappointed to the board.

Lentz, his wife, Kerry, and three children live on the family’s 105-year-old farm near Rolla. He has been extensively involved in North Dakota farm organizations, such as the North Dakota Grain Growers Association and North Dakota Barley Council. On a national level, Lentz has been involved with the U.S. Feed Grains Council, National Barley Growers Association and National Barley Improvement Committee. His other service includes the National Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative, Langdon Research Experiment Station advisory board, FFA and director of the Growers for Wheat Biotechnology.

Johannes, his wife, Patsy, and son Matthew operate a 1,200-head background feedlot near Underwood. The family also produces wheat, corn, canola, flax and dry peas. Johannes has been farming for 27 years. He has been a member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau for more than 25 years, serving on the McLean County board for 12 years and on the state board. He also is a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association and served on the county Crop Improvement Association board. He has been a school board member for 10 years, served as a hunter safety instructor for the past nine years and was a church deacon. In addition, he has served as a township treasurer and supervisor for the past 20 years.

Goodman is from Langdon and is employed in the economic and community development field. Goodman has been actively engaged in an economic development partnership with the Langdon REC and the North Dakota Rural Leadership program. Goodman is president of the Economic Development Association of North Dakota and a member of the Governor’s Military Task Force.

SBARE was established by the North Dakota Legislature in 1997.
