Next Walk North Dakota Challenge Set

The new Walk North Dakota walking challenge starts Sept. 10.

Walk North Dakota is a North Dakota State University Extension Service-sponsored program to encourage people to achieve better health by becoming more physically active. It challenges participants to walk 200 miles during the eight-week program, which runs through Nov. 4.

Participants can reach that goal by walking 10,000 steps a day, five days a week. That’s the equivalent of walking five miles a day.

They can join the program as individuals or groups. The registration fee is $10 per person for participants 19 and older and $5 for those 18 and younger. Registration began Aug. 31.

Participants just need to report the number of steps they’ve taken every two weeks. They can make the report online or by postcard.

To register, visit the program’s Web site at www.walknd.com. For more information, contact Linda Hauge by phone at (701) 231-7964 or e-mail at info@walknd.com.

Since Walk North Dakota started in May 2004, 2,062 participants have accepted the challenge. They’ve logged 721,877,811 steps, or 360,939 miles.
