November 24, 2006 N.D. Feedlot School Set for Jan. 23-24 The 2007 North Dakota Feedlot School will be Jan. 23-24 at North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center. The event is for cattle producers, feeders and backgrounders; feed industry personnel; animal health suppliers; and anyone interested in learning more about managing feedlot cattle. “This two-day, intensive short course will teach principles of feedlot production, nutrition, management and marketing,” says Wendy Bengochea, an NDSU Extension Service agent in Foster County. Topics will include feeding programs, feeds and animal requirements, optimizing nutrient utilization, feeding additives and implanting strategies, ration formulation, facility management, health issues, feed delivery, bunk reading, waste and nutrient management, carcass quality, management systems and marketing issues. Bengochea will lead a commercial feedlot tour. Instructors include Extension specialists from the NDSU campus and Carrington Research Extension Center, and others with extensive experience working with northern Plains feedlots. The cost is $100 per person or $150 for two people from the same operation. The fee does not include hotel accommodations. The registration deadline is Jan. 11.
